I Can Write My Own Bad Copy, Thank You Very Much

 

Something very interesting is happening in the world of generative AI, especially large language model AI. It is proving the adage, "garbage in, garbage out".

Apparently computer scientists are hoarding all authentic content with human writers, ie, pre-AI. The reason for this is because AI is running out of human-authored content. Now when people want to sit down and write something, they ask Chat GPT to do it for them. People aren't writing their own content anymore, and AI produces and then consumes its own slop. Eventually entropy will take over and it will collapse. I wouldn't mind. We humans generate more than enough bullshit as it is without automating and computer generating more of it. 

For what it's worth, I was never on board with spell-checker either. It was too dumb for the job. It couldn't tell you the difference between lead and led. It couldn't distinguish between through and threw. You had to know the difference for yourself, even with the assistance. Most people simply took it for granted that the spell-checker was smarter than they were and accepted whatever answer they were given.

In any event, I do not use AI if I can help it. The best I can do is to go and heckle the chatbots once in a while about how they can't describe things they can't experience as incorporeal creations. I know, I'm not talking to a sentient being or a person, so it really makes no difference one way or another. It just makes me feel better.

We're living in a world where people struggle to think for themselves anymore, let alone write for themselves. I, for one, welcome the collapse of LLM and people being forced once again to write their own cover letters. I think it would be good for them.
